Asian Tech Press (Jan 12) -- From the data released by China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) and Tesla, the Tesla Shanghai giga factory, which has been in operation for more than two years, accounted for nearly half of Tesla's global deliveries last year.
CPCA data shows that Tesla China's sales in January and February were 15,484 and 18,318 respectively, and wholesale sales from March to December were 35,478, 25,845, 33,463, 33,155, 32,968, 44,264, 56,006, 54,391, 52,859 and 70,847 respectively, reaching 473,078 units for the year.
The electric cars sold by Tesla in China include the Model 3 and Model Y made in the Shanghai giga factory and some Model S and Model X made in the Fremont, California factory, but this part is not much.
The data released by Tesla shows that in 2021 they produced 24,390 Model S and Model X and delivered 24,964 units to consumers. This part is for global consumer deliveries, and thus not much will end up being delivered by Tesla China to domestic consumers.
The data released by Tesla also shows that they produced a total of 930,400 electric cars and delivered 936,000 for the year 2021. The deliveries from the Shanghai giga factory alone account for nearly half of Tesla's annual deliveries.
