Asian Tech Press (SEP 28) -- Ford and South Korea's SK Innovation announced on their official websites that the two companies will invest US$11.4 billion to build a new plant to produce F-Series electric pickup trucks and three new battery plants in the United States.
The four new plants planned by Ford and SK Innovation will be built in Stanton, Tennessee, and Glendale, Kentucky, and will create 11,000 jobs, all of which are scheduled to be operational by 2025.
Specifically, in Stanton, Tennessee, $5.6 billion will be invested to build Ford's F-Series electric pickup truck and a battery plant, creating 6,000 jobs. Two battery plants will be built in Glendale, Kentucky, with $5.8 billion invested, creating 5,000 jobs, and the batteries produced will be supplied to Ford's assembly plants in North America.
The three battery plants will be built through a joint venture between the two companies.
Ford will invest $7 billion of the $11.4 billion investment in the four plants. It will be the largest investment in Ford's 118-year history and part of Ford's electric vehicle investment, which they plan to invest more than $30 billion in by 2025.
