Asian Tech Press (Sep 1) -- Chinese battery maker Eve Energy Co. Ltd. (300014.SZ) responded on Tuesday that it has not talked to Tesla Inc. about cooperation on 4680 battery cells.

Eve Energy announced Tuesday evening local time that the company has noticed a media report that Tesla has started to look for partners for the 4680 battery cell in China, and that the candidates for cooperation include Eve Energy.

The report has been dropped, but it has been reprinted and spread by many domestic media platforms, which has aroused the concern of many investors to the company.

Eve Energy ststed that the company immediately checked the relevant information, saying, "As of the disclosure date of the announcement, the company has not made cooperation negotiations with Tesla on 4680 large-format cylindrical cells, and the content of the above report is unfounded."

At Tesla's Battery Day in September 2020, CEO Elon Musk reintroduced its own "tabless" batteries, which Tesla is calling the 4680 cells.

It is understood that such a battery features a non-pole ear design, which reduces heat generation, increases energy density by five times compared to other batteries, can provide six times more power, and provides a 16% increase in battery range.

In addition to greater energy density, allowing battery range to be enhanced, the production cost of the 4680 cells has also been reduced, with a 56% cost savings per kWh.

On July 26, during Tesla's second-quarter earnings call, Musk also said the 4680 cells, is about to be mass-produced and installed in vehicles.

Previously, according to media reports, Tesla has begun looking for a partner manufacturer for the 4680 large-format cylindrical cell in China. In addition to the original battery suppliers Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL) and LG Chem, the companies Tesla negotiated with for the large-format cylindrical cell also include Eve Energy and others.

Eve Energy is a China-based company, known for its lithium iron phosphate battery technologies, entered the supply chain of U.S.-listed electric vehicle maker Xpeng Inc (XPEV: NYSE), Tesla's Chinese rival this year . The company is also laying out the cylindrical ternary, square ternary and other battery technologies.

Ji Yajuan, director of the basic materials and technology research office of Eve Energy, has said that the company has laid out two large-format models of 4680 and 4695 in cylindrical cells, and will gradually market large-format cells after 2023.
