Asian Tech Press (Dec 27) -- Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus Corp. (Fuso), which is owned by Germany-based Daimler AG, will begin selling electric trucks after 2022, Nikkei reported.

The company plans to stop selling engine cars by the second half of the 2030s and replace all its trucks and buses with purely electric vehicles and fuel cell vehicles fueled by hydrogen energy, the report said. And this will be the first time a domestic commercial vehicle giant in Japan has completely eliminated engine vehicles.

The Japanese government plans to make all small trucks to electric vehicles by 2040.

Fuso will work with its parent company Daimler Truck Holding AG, Daimler's truck division, to develop the drive unit for pure electric vehicles, etc., and launch new pure electric trucks by 2022 onwards. And fuel cell vehicles will be available in Japan after 2027.
