Semiconductor supply chain disruptions have dramatically affected many technology companies, and the global shortage of semiconductor chips is causing a serious impact on industries such as consumer electronics.
Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins said the global shortage of computer chips is expected to last for another six months. "We think we've got another six months to get through the short term," he said during an interview with the BBC.
Pat Gelsinger, Intel's CEO, mentioned that the global chip shortage could remain for two more years. "Our estimates are it's probably two years for the industry to work through it because, as you say, it takes a while to build a fabrication, or a fab, as we like to call it in the industry," he said during an appearance on Barron's Roundtable.
In March, Intel announced a $20 billion investment in two new fabs in Arizona, U.S., to expand its chip manufacturing facilities, which will take some time to become operational.
