The Butantan Institute, a leading medical research institute in Brazil, recently released the results of a study showing that the Chinese Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine can help protect people over 70 years of age effectively against the Gamma Covid-19 variant.

The Gamma variant strain first appeared in Brazil in November 2020 and is now widely spread in 75 countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom.

The gamma variant strain is known to be approximately twice as infectious as the original novel coronavirus and can lead to reinfection after patients recover.
