China's JD.com bans 87 games, including Animal Crossing, Call of Duty

Asian Tech Press (SEP 06) -- On September 2, JD.com released an announcement saying that according to China's Interim Measures for the Management of Online Games and Regulations on Publication Management, games that have not been approved and documented shall not be sold in JD.com Mall in the future. According to the list published by JD.com, 87 games were banned.

The banned games include but are not limited to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Call of Duty series, Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series, Red Dead Redemption 2Pro Evolution Soccer 2019, The Last of Us Part II, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon series and other hit games.

The announcement stated that the following contents shall not be included in the games sold by merchants in the future.

  1. Violating the basic principles established by the Constitution
  2. Jeopardizing national unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity
  3. Leaking state secrets, endangering national security or harming national honor and interests
  4. Inciting ethnic hatred, ethnic discrimination, undermining national unity, or infringing on ethnic customs or habits
  5. Promoting evil cults, superstition
  6. Spreading rumors, disturbing social order and undermining social stability
  7. Promoting obscenity, pornography, gambling, violence, or abetting crime
  8. Insulting, defaming others, infringing on the legitimate rights and interests of others
  9. Contrary to social morality
  10. Other prohibited content by laws, administrative regulations and state regulations.

JD.com stated that regular and high-pressure governance will be formed for game goods in the future. Violators will be dealt with in accordance with the "JD.com open platform prohibited goods and information management specifications".
