Asia Tech Wire (Sep 12) -- Geely, a major Chinese automotive group, is scouting for a location to build a plant in Europe, according to Reuters.
Geely is setting up a base in Frankfurt and plans to test a number of new energy vehicles (NEVs) to assess whether they meet European certification standards.
In an interview with Reuters, Li Chuanhai, vice president of Geely Auto, a subsidiary of the auto group, said that building a plant in Europe is not yet 100% certain and that the company has many possibilities.
Geely and Poland's new government are in talks to set up an electric vehicle joint venture plant in the country, but Polish officials earlier noted that the authorities don't see Geely as an ideal partner.
In addition, Nicolas Appelgren, chief executive officer (CEO) of Lynk & Co Europe, a Geely-owned premium brand, said Geely is looking for suitable locations for a plant across Europe.
Lynk & Co will launch its first Chinese-made electric vehicle, the Lynk & Co 02 compact SUV, in Europe next month.
Appelgren said Lynk & Co plans to produce its next all-electric vehicle in Europe, but there is no specific timetable at this time.
Lynk & Co currently sells only one hybrid model in Europe, the Lynk & Co 01.
