Asian Tech Press (SEP 01)-- Chinese state-owned automaker Chery Automobile believes it is necessary to localize the production of electric vehicles in Russia and is holding talks with local Russian car manufacturers about it. According to Sputnik.
Chery stated, " Our Russian office is studying consumers' demands at the current stage and will decide based on the results about which models to launch in the Russian market."
Chery earlier said it plans to launch more EV models in the Russian market in two years. According to Russian auto industry analyst Autostat, Chery has shipped two electric models to Russia for its marketing campaign.
Chery's Russian dealers sold 18,244 vehicles in Russia in the first seven months of 2021, 4.9 times more than in the same period last year. The best-selling model was the Chery Tiggo 7 PRO, with 7,403 units sold during this period.
Chery plans to increase its sales in Russia in 2021 to 2.5 times compared to last year, achieving a sales target of about 30,000 units. For this purpose, Chery is expanding its distribution network in Russia and introducing new models to the Russian market.
