Apr.26,2021

The China National Space Administration (CNSA) revealed the name of China's first Mars rover at the opening ceremony of 2021 China Space Day held in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province on April 24.

The name of China's first Mars rover "Zhurong" was the most popular name for a public vote and the selection was backed by CNSA.

"Zhurong" is revered as the ancient fire god in traditional Chinese culture and naming the first Mars rover as such means to ignite the fire of interstellar exploration in China and to guide the continuous exploration and self-transcendence of mankind to the unknown universe.

"Zhurong" Mars rover stands at the height of 1 meter 85 and weighs about 240 kg. The rover is designed to last for 3 Martian months, equivalent to about 92 Earth days. It will be carrying out surface composition, material type distribution, geological structure, meteorological environment, and other exploration work on Mars.
