Asian Tech Press (SEP 09) -- Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific announced that it will close its London pilot base and evaluate its last few overseas pilot bases in the United States in response to the impact of the Covid-19 outbreak.
Cathay Pacific assessed its London pilot base this July after closing pilot bases in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Germany to focus its operations on Hong Kong. Pilots in Hong Kong had to accept temporary salary reductions to keep their jobs.
Cathay Pacific said in a statement that many pilots at its London base haven't flown since April 2020 and will be laid off or offered the chance to move to Hong Kong.
The company added that it will review its U.S. bases later this year.
