National Business Wire (Jan 2) -- Dutch chip equipment giant ASML on Monday announced the partial revocation of an export licence for some of its products, saying it affects some of its Chinese customers.

Recently the Dutch government partially revoked a license for the shipment of NXT:2050i and NXT:2100i lithography systems in 2023, according to a statement from ASML.

It said, "In recent discussions with the US government, ASML has obtained further clarification of the scope and impact of the US export control regulations."

ASML does not expect the current revocation of its export license or the latest U.S. export control restrictions, which the U.S. government issued on 17 October last year, to have a "material impact" on its financial outlook for 2023.

The company stated that it is fully committing itself to complying with all applicable laws and regulations in the countries in which it operates, including export control regulations.

In fact, ASML's export licence to ship three advanced deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography machines to the Chinese company are effective until January 2024.

But weeks before the ban on exports of high-end lithography machines went into effect, ASML had cancelled shipments of some of its products to China at the request of the U.S. government, Bloomberg reported, citing sources.

U.S. officials contacted ASML and asked the company to immediately stop shipments to Chinese customers, the report said.

Sources said U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan called the Dutch government late last year on the matter, and then Dutch officials asked the U.S. to contact ASML directly to inquire about shipments of DUV lithography machines to China.
