Asian Tech Press (Dec 22) -- Apple Inc. supplier Luxshare Precision Industry Co Ltd is building a massive production facility in eastern China with the goal of breaking the decade-old monopoly on iPhone assembly held by Taiwan-based rivals Foxconn and Pegatron with the support of Apple, Nikkei reported on Wednesday.
Luxshare, a mainland Chinese manufacturer just included in Apple's supply chain, is spending 11 billion yuan ($1.73 billion) to build a large manufacturing complex in Kunshan, Jiangsu province, which is equivalent to the size of 40 soccer fields.
The report also said that with the megafactory in eastern China, Luxshare aims to assemble millions of iPhones as soon as next year.
