Asia Tech Wire (May 20) -- U.S. chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) plans to invest NT$5 billion ($155 million) to set up an R&D center in Taiwan.
Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs confirmed on Monday that AMD will also invest NT$5 billion to set up an R&D center in Taiwan, following Nvidia's move to set up Asia's first AI R&D center in the island.
The department revealed that when AMD Chair and CEO Lisa Su travels to Taiwan in June to attend Computex Taipei 2024, authorities will discuss related matters with her.
Taipei officials said that when previously considering Nvidia's plan to set up an R&D center, they hoped to introduce 10% foreign high-level manpower.
