National Business Wire (Dec 6) -- Twitch, Amazon's streaming platform, has announced that it will end its South Korean operations at the end of February next year.
Twitch said in a statement Tuesday that it will shut down its Korean operations on Feb. 27, 2024, as "the cost to operate Twitch in Korea is prohibitively expensive."
Twitch CEO Dan Clancy explained that despite efforts to reduce costs in South Korea, the network is still 10 times more expensive than in most other countries, and the company's Korean operations have been running "at a significant loss".
Clancy said Twitch will help local streamers move their communities to other live-streaming services in South Korea.
