Asia Tech Wire (Oct 10) -- Amazon announced Wednesday that it will deploy 1,000 Rivian electric delivery vans equipped with Vision-Assisted Package Retrieval (VAPR) by early 2025.
With VAPR, a new AI-powered solution, delivery drivers will no longer need to spend time organizing packages by stops, reading labels, or manually checking key identifiers like a customer's name or address to ensure they have the right packages.
When the van arrives at a delivery location, VAPR will automatically project a green "O" on all packages that will be delivered at that stop and a red "X“ on all other packages.
And through an audio and visual cue, VAPR will prompt the driver, confirming it has found the right packages, before the driver needs to enter the cargo area.
Amazon began introducing electric delivery vans in the summer of 2022, and more than 15,000 are currently in service across the U.S.
Amazon also announced it is bringing its customized vans to Europe, including a fleet of thousands of electric vans.
