Asia Tech Wire (Sep 11) -- Amazon plans to invest $10.5 billion over the next five years to build data centers in the U.K.

Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon's cloud computing unit, announced on Wednesday that it plans to invest £8 billion ($10.5 billion) between 2024 and 2028 to build, operate and maintain data centers in the United Kingdom.

The investment is part of the company's long-term commitment to support economic growth and productivity in the U.K., and is due to contribute £14 billion to the total U.K. gross domestic product (GDP) by 2028 and provide an average of more than 14,000 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs per year to local U.K. businesses.

These jobs are all part of the AWS data center supply chain and include construction, facilities maintenance, engineering, telecommunications and other jobs in the local economy.
