Asia Tech Wire (June 6) -- Chinese tech giant Alibaba's fresh food retail brand Freshippo, commonly known as Hema, has hit the U.S. market.

Hema has shipped its private label goods to the U.S. by sea and put them on the shelves of Dahua Supermarket, the largest Chinese supermarket chain in the U.S., and Yami, the largest Chinese shopping website in North America.

It is worth noting that this is the first time that a local retail brand has gone out of China on a large scale.

Chinese media outlets learned that through market research, Hema chose the U.S., the country with the largest distribution of Chinese people in the world, as the first stop of its overseas expansion.

The first batch of goods to enter the U.S. market includes Hema's top-selling casual snacks and instant food in China, including Longkou vermicelli, hawthorn strips, sesame sauce, and knife-cut noodles.

In the first week of the launch on Yami, Hema brand products have already become the best-selling new products on both the east and west coasts of the U.S.

After successfully testing the waters in the U.S. market, Hema will also plan to enter Australia, Southeast Asia, Japan and South Korea.
