Asian Tech Press -- Alibaba Cloud, also known as Aliyun, a cloud computing company owned by Chinese tech giant Alibaba, leaked a user's registration information without the user's consent, according to media reports on Monday.

Recently, the network circulated a response letter from the Zhejiang Communications Administration to the complainant on July 5, which verified that Alibaba Cloud Computing Co. Ltd. had leaked the user's registration information to a third-party partner company without the user's consent.

According to media reports, the person in charge of the Zhejiang Communications Administration responded to a reporter on Monday, saying the response letter was true.

The response letter revealed that on November 11, 2019, Alibaba Cloud Computing Co. Ltd. leaked the user registration information to a third-party partner company without the user's consent.

The regulator believes that Aliyun's behavior has violated the provisions of Article 42 of the Cybersecurity Law of the People's Republic of China, and has ordered the company to make corrections.

It is worth noting that the process of building China's legal system for cyber and data governance is advancing rapidly. On August 20, the Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress, the resident body of China's state power and the national legislature, voted to adopt the Personal Information Protection Law of the People's Republic of China.

This is China's first personal information protection law and will take effect from November 1, 2021.

Some industry sources analyze that the Personal Information Protection Law affects mainly Internet companies.

Since this year, Chinese regulators have reviewed apps for mapping, sports and fitness, and short video, of which 351 illegally collected personal information and 25 were taken down for serious violations.

After the Personal Information Protection Law comes into effect, Internet companies will increase their investment in cybersecurity.
