Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) on Sunday has confirmed that it has increased the price of its PS5 console again.

The price increase covers the UK, European, Australian and New Zealand markets and is effective from April 14th.

In the UK and Europe, the price of the PS5 digital version has been increased, specifically by £40 in the UK, where it now costs £429.99, and by €50 in Europe, where it now costs €499.99.

And in Australia and New Zealand, the prices of both the PS5 digital version and the standard version (with optical drive) have been adjusted.

The price of the PS5 digital version in Australia is now AU$749.95 and the standard version is now AU$829.95; the price of the PS5 digital version in New Zealand is now NZ$859.95 and the standard version is now NZ$949.95.

Sony said in a statement, "With a backdrop of a challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates, SIE has made the tough decision to raise the recommended retail price (RRP) of the PlayStation 5 console in select markets in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Australia and New Zealand."

However, the PS5 Pro has not been affected by this price increase.

In response to the price hike, Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad posted on X on Sunday, openly expressing his displeasure and teasing, "Holding on to my launch day PS5 so I can sell it for $1,400 in 2030."

Earlier, a research report pointed out that the two giants of the Japanese gaming industry - Nintendo and Sony - will probably increase the selling prices of their game consoles due to the impact of the U.S. tariff policy.

The report analyzed that in the most likely scenario, the price of a Nintendo Switch 2 or Sony PlayStation 5 could increase by about 30% for U.S. consumers.

This means that a future launch of the Switch 2 or PS5 with an AstroBot package could sell for close to $590.

Analysts also emphasized that game console makers are the most affected by tariffs in the video game industry because they rely on hardware sales and need to ship physical goods.

Meanwhile, the U.S. market is crucial for Nintendo and Sony, accounting for 37% and 29% of their total revenue, respectively.

As a result, changes in tariff policy could have a significant impact on the two companies.

On April 10, Sony released a notice, announcing that from April 16, 2025, the price of PlayStation Plus (PS+) membership service in Hong Kong and Taiwan will be adjusted.

The company said the price adjustment is primarily due to the ongoing impact of global market conditions.

Like many businesses around the world, Sony needs to ensure that it can continue to offer high-quality games and value-added services to its subscribers by adjusting the cost of PlayStation Plus in each region.

For current subscribers, this price increase will take effect on the next renewal date on or after June 24, Sony said.

Any membership changes made on or after April 16, including upgrades, downgrades, or add-on times, will be renewed with the new pricing plan.
