Recently, the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission revealed that the scale of Shanghai's biopharmaceutical industry continues to grow, from 761.714 billion yuan in 2021 to 984.702 billion yuan in 2024, with an average annual compound growth rate of 8.94%. It will reach 500.566 billion yuan in the first half of 2025 and is expected to exceed 1 trillion yuan this year. This means that Shanghai has officially welcomed its fifth trillion-yuan industrial sector, following the four trillion-yuan industrial clusters of electronic information, automobiles, high-end equipment, and software and information services. More notably, as biopharmaceuticals enter the trillion-yuan camp, Shanghai's three key leading industries, artificial intelligence, integrated circuits, and biopharmaceuticals, are collectively emerging as new economic pillars.
