South Korea's LG Energy Solution announced Friday that it has entered into an exclusive partnership with U.S. solar electric vehicle startup Aptera Motors Corp. to exclusively supply it with 2170 cylindrical batteries.
LG Energy Solution signed a three-party agreement with Aptera and South Korean battery pack manufacturer CTNS to supply the U.S. firm with a total of 4.4 GWh of cylindrical cells from 2025 to 2031, the company said in a press release.
The cylindrical lithium-ion batteries will be installed in the automaker's solar-powered electric vehicle, the Aptera, which will go on sale in the US market this year.
CTNS will assemble the cylindrical cells produced by LG Energy Solution into a battery pack to be supplied to Aptera.
The Aptera is a two-seat, three-wheeled solar-powered electric vehicle that can travel 643 kilometers on a single charge.
It is expected to be the commuter vehicle of choice as it can travel 64 kilometers a day on solar power alone, according to the press release.
