Nvidia plans to build a research center in Shanghai "to focus on the customized needs of Chinese customers"
Nvidia plans to establish a research center in Shanghai. The Financial Times quoted people familiar with the matter on the 16th as saying that Nvidia CEO Huang Renxun discussed the plan with Shanghai officials during his visit to China last month and has rented new office space in Shanghai. People familiar with the matter revealed that the Shanghai Municipal Government has expressed preliminary support for the above plan, and Nvidia is also lobbying the US government for approval. The research center will study the specific needs of Chinese customers and the complex technical requirements to meet Washington's export controls. However, core design and production will remain overseas. Nvidia said that we will not send any GPU (graphics processor) designs to China for modification to comply with export controls. At the same time, the center will reportedly focus on the customized needs of Chinese customers and participate in global R&D projects, covering areas such as chip design verification, product optimization and autonomous driving technology research.
